Diosgenin diosgenin
Breast cancer is one of the second most common cancers in the world. Recent research suggest that plant derived drugs are of great interest due to its health benefits not only food substances of plant origin but also for the therapeutic usage to combat against various ailments due to the absence of adverse side effects. In the present investigation, efficacy of diosgenin in mammary carcinoma cell line (MCF-7) and in experimental breast cancer was investigated. Inhibition of MCF-7 cells is likely to be selective apoptotic nature of the compound diosgenin. In addition, diosgenin is very effective in preventing chemical induced breast cancer possibly through antioxidant and antigenotoxic nature, which was confirmed by various biochemical and molecular events. Thus, the anticancer properties of diosgenin could be useful information for the possible application in cancer prevention and cancer therapy.

Physico-chemical and functional properties of Fenugreek seed proteins diosgenin
Plant proteins play a very important role in the human nutrition. The different types of plant proteins form an essential part of what human and animals eat to help them grow and stay healthy, especially if the protein is safe and containing essential amino acids, and possesses other functional properties that reflect the quality of proteins.Like other legumes fenugreek (Trigonella foenum graecum) seed can be considered as a highly nutritive seed since it contains both essential and nonessential amino acid. The seed of fenugreek was also used as supplementation material to improve the protein quality of cereals and tubers, which have low protein content. The seed of fenugreek was widely used in different countries around the world, it is even used medically or as human food ,the seed contains the C27 steriods (such as sapongenin and diosgenin) this steroid is important as starting material in the pharmaceutical industry and medicine .The seed has the ability to significantly reduce serum cholesterol and also to reduce the blood glucose.

Interaction of Symbiotic Fungus with Fenugreek diosgenin
In India, Herbal formulations are preferred due to lesser side effects and low cost. Medicinal plant wealth faces pressure due to shrinking habitats and overuse. Ttherefore in order to cultivate medicinal plants on a large scale new symbiotic fungus Piriformospora indica has been exploited. The neglected but pharmacologically very important crop Trigonella foenum graecum (Fenugreek) has been investigated to find the influence of P. indica on its growth. An investigation to find increase in the secondary metabolites like diosgenin content, bioactivity of glycosides isolated from the leaves of Fenugreek has been done. A novel approach has also been carried out by making a comparison of glycosides isolated from control and P. indica treated plants to find for any change in functional moeity or mass of the compounds. Therefore the book embodies the work based on investigating the interaction between Fenugreek and mycorrhizal fungus and its further phytochemical analysis.
